Electric Cars: Best Upcoming Electric Cars in India 2022

Electric Cars: A slew of new electric cars arrived in India in 2021, and it appears that 2022 will be even better, with a slew of new EVs on the way.

Electric cars are no longer the way of the future. They’ve arrived. All that’s left is for them to gain universal adoption, which will only happen over time and when the market has enough alternatives to meet everyone’s wants. We moved from having only three electric vehicles on the market in 2021 to having more than ten. Of course, if all goes according to plan and new car sales do not suffer, that number might quadruple in the first six months of 2022.

Here are the electric vehicles that will be available in showrooms by 2022:

Tesla Model 3

Tesla Model 3

Tesla’s entry into India has been fraught with controversy. What was supposed to be a December 2021 entry has slipped into 2022. To be honest, we don’t have a certain date at this moment because Tesla has been mute on the subject.

The Model 3 is likely to be available in a fully equipped version if it makes it to India in 2022 since it has been spotted many times in the nation.

Expected Launch – Diwali 2022

Expected Price – Rs 70 lakh

MG ZS EV 2022

MG ZS EV 2022

In 2022, even MG will update the ZS EV Electric Car. It will get the same aesthetic updates as the Astor, which is the ICE equivalent of the ZS EV.

It’s marketed between the Hyundai Kona Electric and the Tata Nexon EV, and MG has sold a significant number of them. It might acquire further features in the 2022 upgrade, like the AI robot in the Astor, to improve its desirability even more. It will also be able to use larger battery packs for more range.

Expected Launch – Mid-2022

Expected Price – Rs 22 Lakh

Volvo XC40 Recharge

Volvo XC40 Recharge

Volvo wants to make the changeover to electric vehicles as soon as possible! Despite the fact that its intentions have been made public, the globally recognised manufacturer does not offer an electric vehicle in India. With the XC40 Recharge, that might all change in 2022. It’s virtually the same SUV as the XC40, with the exception that the engine has been eliminated in favour of electric motors and, of course, a battery pack. The XC40 Recharge boasts an AWD system and a range of more than 400 kilometres (WLTP cycle).

Expected Launch – January 2022

Expected Price – Rs 60 lakh

Mini Cooper SE

Mini Cooper SE

BMW’s Mini Cooper SE will be another electric car. This one, on the other hand, has already sold out. BMW sent 30 cars to India, and they were all sold out as soon as reservations started in November 2021.

The Cooper SE features a limited 233km range and a 184PS/270Nm electric powertrain. With a capacity of 36.2kWh, the battery pack is quite tiny. The greatest part is that the Mini Cooper SE will be available with three doors, increasing its stylistic appeal.

Expected Launch – Feb 2022

Expected Price – Rs 50 lakh

Mahindra XUV300 Electric

Mahindra XUV300 Electric

It was meant to arrive by the end of 2020, but we all know how well that went. The XUV300 Electric will be a natural competitor to the Nexon EV, and if priced appropriately, it may even dethrone the Tata car as the country’s top-selling EV. That is if it ever gets off the ground.

While Mahindra has been promoting its ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicles such as the Thar and XUV700, it has been silent on EVs. We do know they have big ambitions for completely electric vehicles, which is why we think the electric XUV300 will be one of the highlights of 2022.

Expected Launch – Mid-2022

Expected Price – Rs 15 lakh

Tata Altroz EV

Tata Altroz EV

With the Nexon and Tigor EVs on its roster, Tata Motors is India’s top EV manufacturer, and the Altroz EV will be a welcome addition to that lineup. It was initially shown at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, then we saw it again at the 2020 Auto Expo. The Altroz electric car has yet to appear in showrooms, but that might change in 2022.

The automaker has also established a specialised subsidiary to supervise the development, sales, and after-sales servicing of electric vehicles, with the Altroz EV likely to be the first vehicle under the new company’s umbrella. In terms of powertrain, we anticipate Tata to offer something comparable to the Nexon EV, given the Altroz.

Expected Launch – Mid-2022

Expected Price – Rs 13 Lakh

Ford Mustang Mach E

Ford Mustang Mach E

Ford has ceased production in India. That does not rule out the possibility of selling automobiles in India. The American behemoth has chosen to make its high-end products available in the United States, which means we’ll receive the Mustang Mach E. The electric Mustang is a crossover-style SUV that can sprint from 0 to 96 kilometres per hour in under 3.5 seconds in its fastest form. The RWD variant can travel over 500 kilometres on a single charge.

With such adaptability, we believe the Mustang Mach E will appeal to a wide range of buyers.

Expected Launch – Mid-2022

Expected Price – Rs 80 lakh

BMW i4

BMW i4

BMW’s electric car battle started with the iX SUV, and the German automaker now wants to introduce the i4, an electric sedan. The e-sedan is based on BMW’s 4 Series Gran Coupe and is available in both RWD and AWD configurations. It features an 83.9kWh battery pack with a range of 365 kilometres, according to estimations (AWD version with larger wheels).

In 2022, we expect BMW to release a fully equipped version of the i4.

Expected Launch – Mid-2022

Expected Price – Rs 80 Lakh

Hyundai Kona Electric 2022

Hyundai Kona Electric 2022

The Kona Electric will always be remembered as India’s first long-range electric vehicle. There were few takers when it originally became available. The required infrastructure was lacking, the price was too expensive, and purchasing an electric vehicle was fraught with too many unanswered issues.

Kona Electric’s stats haven’t been very remarkable in previous years. Because rival EVs have undercut their pricing while simultaneously providing a more cheap bundle, this is the case. Hyundai, on the other hand, wants to turn things around in 2022 with an upgrade to the Kona EV, and it’ll be hoping for a second chance.

Expected Launch – Mid-2022

Expected Price – Rs 24 Lakh

Mercedes-Benz EQS

Mercedes-Benz EQS

In India, the S Class of electric vehicles will be available shortly. The S Class was unveiled a few months ago, and it comes with a lot of anticipation. It has a massive 107.1kWh battery pack that can go up to 770 kilometres on a single charge! It’s one of just a few autos with such a broad range.

RWD and AWD versions of the EQS are available, and Mercedes may sell both in India. It also has innovative features such as automated door opening and rear-wheel steering.

Expected Launch – Mid-2022

Expected Price – Rs 2 crore
