According to SMEV, the increased demand for high-speed electric two-wheelers would drive EV adoption in India.

In the entire EV journey from the last few months, there are golden days that we have not seen before. In the last 15 years, the collective sale of electric two-wheelers, e-cars, e-three wheelers, e-buses is 1 million, and now the same 1 million units are expected in just one the year 2022 According to SMEV Director General Sohinder Gill.

Nowadays many users started shifting in large numbers from petrol two-wheeler to electric two-wheeler due to lower running cost, very low maintenance from a future perspective.

According to SMEV(Society of Manufacturers of Electric Vehicles ), high-speed electric two-wheelers (E2Ws), which have a top speed of more than 25 km/h and require a complete licence, grew by 425 percent from 27,206 units in 2020 to 1,42,829 units in 2021.

The FAME 2 programme does not provide subsidies for this low-speed E2Ws.

India is likely to have goods across all sectors, including e-scooters, e-motorcycles, and e-cycles, from significant and organised companies in the next two to three years, according to Gill.
