BYD e6 India’s first electric MPV: Range 500 Km

BYD, a Chinese automaker, has released its first vehicle in India, the e6. It’s an all-electric MPV, and it’s the first of its kind in India. Customers will not be able to purchase the new automobile directly from BYD. Instead, it will be sold as a B2B offering to business buyers and car fleet owners. Only one type is available, and it costs Rs 29.15 lakh ex-showroom.

BYD has been testing the e6 in India for quite some time. It’s a completely new car that’s also been updated for overseas markets. With a lot of chrome, the BYD e6 MPV looks rather fascinating. With a thick chrome slat linking the two sections, the front end gets elegant LED projector headlamps.

A blacked-out skirt and side vents are also added to the front bumpers. The MPV has a sloping roofline influenced by coupes, and the all-black pillars give the car a floating roof illusion.

Leather seats and a six-way adjustable driver and front passenger seat are standard on the all-new e6. A large 10.1-inch rotatable touchscreen display with Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity is included in the centre console.

The electric MPV also has a filtration system that purifies the air to the level of a medical-grade face mask.

Range:

The Blade Battery of the BYD e6 is 71.7 kWh. It has a WLTC-tested city range of 520 kilometres, which is far more than any other inexpensive electric car on the Indian market. The aggregate range of the test cycle is 415 kilometres, which is a respectable distance. The battery drives a 70-kilowatt-hour electric motor with 180 Nm of torque and a top speed of 130 kilometres per hour.

The vehicle warranty for the All-New e6 is 3 years/125,000 km (whichever comes first), the battery cell warranty is 8 years/500,000 km (whichever comes first), and the traction motor warranty is 8 years/150,000 km.

Charging

The new BYD e6 supports both AC and DC rapid charging, according to BYD. The car can be charged from 30 percent to 80 percent using a DC outlet in about 35 minutes. Other details, like how long it will take to charge from zero to 100%, have not been provided by the company.

Only a few cities, including Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Ahmedabad, Kochi, and Chennai, offer the all-new BYD. The firm is seeking to expand its dealer network across the country.

While the e6’s performance isn’t very spectacular, especially given its price, the MPV is more efficient. BYD claims that a single charge can deliver up to 415 kilometres of combined WLTC certified range, not to be confused with the more rigorous WLTP test cycle.

On the WLTC urban cycle, that number jumps to 520 km per charge. The MPV also has quick DC charging capabilities, letting it charge from 30% to 80% in just 35 minutes.
